How to Network an HP Laserjet/MFP Printer

Features/Steps

  1. Turn on the printer. Set time and date to Central Time and MM/DD/YYYY. Skip this step if you want to, this can be set up later.
  2. On the main screen scroll to the right to get to Reports
  3. Select Configuration/Status page
  4. Select Configuration and hit Ok.
  5. A page will print out and it will have information regarding networking
  6. Connect to the printer within your browser using the IP address from the networking page that you've printed out.
  7. If the printer needs renaming, click on General

  1. Click on Device Information

  1. Name the printer Location-Department-Model number. Click apply on the bottom to save changes. For an example GB-Engineering-HPm406-. 

  1. Next, click on Networking

  1. Click on TCP/IP Settings then Network identification

  1. Use naming convention from step 3 for Host Name. Select apply to save changes.
  2.  Check mark DDNS. Type in crmanagement.com in the smaller box under TCP/IP Domain Suffix and hit Add
  3. Disale HP Connection Inspector and select Apply to save changes.
  4. Back onto the webpage, click on TCP/IP(v4)

  1.  Change the IP configuration method from DHCP to Manual.
  2. Change the original IP address from 10.12.11.174 to 10.xx.x.xxx . For the purpose of this article, the IP address for this printer will be 10.20.2.194. You can also look at the CRM-Network Printers excel sheet for reference on what IP to give. Reach out to Doug to make sure that the IP is good to use, unless you are replacing the printer. Then use the same IP.
  3. Change the original Subnet Mask to 255.255.240.0
  4. Change the original Default Gateway to 10.xx.16.1
  5.  Have the Preferred DNS Server to 10.1.3.61
  6. Same goes for Alternate DNS Server to 10.1.3.62

  1. Hit Apply to save changes
  2. To update time and date, click on General. Then Date and Time Settings 

  1. Under Product Time, make sure it's the current time and date
  1. Under Time Zone, change default to  GMT-6:00 Centeral Time (US & Canada)

  1. Check mark Daylight Savings Time Settings
  2.  Under Date/time Format. Select the month the date and year. For an example, Nov 6th, 2023. 


 

  1. Time Format, select 12 hours (AM/PM)

  1. Check mark Automatically synchronize with a Network Time Sever. Then hit Apply to save changes.

  1. Click on NTS Settings, in the Network Time Server Address, type in time.crmanagement.com
  2. Click on Energy Settings under Date/Time Settings
  3. In Sleep Settings, type in 60 minutes for one hour. 
  4. For Shut Down, select the box and type in 480 minutes. 
  5. Click on Apply to save changes.

  1. ​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Creat login for the printer. Select Security
  2. Under Set the Local Administrator Password, type in the standard password for both New Password and Verify Password boxes. Hit Apply to save changes.
  3. Put the following credentials in Secret Server.
